DownloadVicki was born and raised in Morehead, Ky and we are delighted to have her as our Celebrity Quilter for our 2025 Quilt Show! We hope her many followers will come to Vicki's hometown to see where Vicki gets her inspiration!
Vicki is the owner and designer of Calico Patch Designs. Vicki learned to quilt from her grandmother over 40 years ago in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains. In 1998, she began teaching quilting classes for Community Education and grew a small quilting community in Eastern Kentucky. In 2000, she opened Calico Patch Quilt Shop and continued to teach sewing, quilting and embroidery as well as designing quilts for classes, shop hops and retreats. In 2015 she introduced Calico Patch Designs nationwide. She has since lectured and taught at quilt shows and guilds across the country.
Vicki's designs have been published in Better Homes & Gardens, American Patchwork & Quilting, American Quilter, Primitive Quilts & Projects; Quilt Sampler; Simply Vintage and AQS's OnPoint Magazine. She and her quilting husband, Tom McCarty, were featured as a Top Quilt Shop in the Better Homes & Gardens Fall 2018 Quilt Sampler with their project featured on the front cover.
In 2018 Vicki began designing fabric and in 2022 she collaborated with WonderFil to design a primitive pallet thread line. In 2024, Vicki joined Riley Blake with her new Stitcher's Flannel
Vicki's style can be defined as Refined Traditional, taking the complications out of traditional and brightening up the primitive. Vicki samples elements from each to create a fresh feel. She loves to mix wool applique with traditional cotton and flannel backgrounds to make blocks with quick and practical methods.
Vicki & Tom Reside in Morehead, KY and have two sons and seven grandchildren.
For more than 30 years, Ohio-based Penny Haren has been developing and teaching techniques that make it quick, easy and fun for quilters to create heirloom quality quilts with stunning results. She’s a member of the Creative Grids team, written several books for Cut Loose Press where she also serves as Project Manager.
The Rowan County Quilt Show has been bringing life to the art of quilting for over 40 years. The show was expanded into a regional organization in 2022 to include the following counties: Bath, Carter, Elliott, Fleming, Lewis, Menifee, Montgomery, Morgan and Rowan. Our mission is to preserve, educate and promote the historic skills and craft of quilting for current and future generations.
